we estimate that cone responses evoked by either green (520 nm) or UV (365 nm) flashes should exhibit roughly the same activation times (tpeak = 60 ms) in whole retina ERGs. However, this does not fully explain the reduced activation speed to our UV stimulus compared to previous reports of cone responses to green light. When considering the size of the recording region of our chamber pedestal (1.9 mm Ø; recording area=2.83 mm2) compared to others (1.2 mm Ø; recording area=1.13 mm2) (Donner et al., 1988; Heikkinen et al., 2008) flashes likely activated larger amounts of s-pigment, more closely representing the opsin expression pattern across the entire retina, compared to that of central retina alone. However, peak times did reflect the general trend of single-cell studies (tpeak,m-cone = 63 ± 5ms, tpeak,s-cone = 73 ± 5ms) (Nikonov et al., 2006) as s-cone responses peaked 10 ms slower than m-cones. Regardless, its established that activation kinetics vary between in-vivo, ex-vivo, and single-cell photoreceptor recordings (Nikonov et al., 2006; Heikkinen et al., 2008; Sakurai et al., 2016; Vinberg et al., 2017; Vinberg et al., 2018). 2b1af7f3a8
