New Sisters Of Battle Models BETTER

A recent picture in an email from GW (May 31), and then a subsequent reposting of the same picture in a Warhammer Community article had people thinking we all somehow missed a couple of new models for the Sisters of Battle.
The Dogmata is a heavy melee unit, particularly suited to capturing objectives, while the Palatine, first arriving in the Piety and Pain battlebox, will be released as a standalone model alongside the new codex.
Even in their heyday the range of all metal models was a pain to collect, especially if you added a few vehicles (and believe me you definitely wanted the penitent engine!). It was such a long running request, that it even had a little place in this warhammer community skit which released a Squat for Necromunda.
If we than take the current models of GW, like the Space Marines, Sisters of Silence, or especially Inquisitor Greyfax, we can easily equalize the width of the bases and have a first look at the measures.
NOTE: The base of the render model has not the same dimensions as the actual 32mm bases. I had the choice to either take the height or width as a reference and went with the width. It would make more sense for the render models, to have the right width. The height would not make any difference later on. But I could be totally wrong at that one.
Warhammer Community, the company's main news hub for all things Games Workshop, announced that a fair amount of new Sisters of Battle models will be up on their web store to preorder with a January 18th, 2020 release date.
You've already seen the Penitent Engine, but you'll still be surprised how much stuff is packed onto these sprues. The kit includes two of these bizarre machines, with loads of cosmetic and weapon options so they never have to look the same. Which is good, because they're so effective on the battlefield you'll want loads of them. Kit them out with flails to smash through light to medium infantry or buzz-blades for chopping up big beasties and enemy armour. With two in the box, why not go for one of each
Speaking of penitent soldiers seeking absolution through combat, a full kit for Arco-flagellants is coming up for pre-order this weekend. You'll find ten models in a wide variety of poses, with enough flail and head options to create all kinds of different looks. You can even build one as the notorious Damien 1427, first seen in the larger-scale Inquisitor game way back in 2001.
To further support your Sisters of Battle, the Exorcist has arrived to play them a little pipe-organ hymnal, complete with a built-in percussion section in the form of high explosives. This brutal battle tank fires two different types of weapon, but both fill the air with the screams of heretics to make a perfect accompaniment to their solemn dirges.
These battle-hardened troops form the back-bone of the Battle Sisters army, ready to burn down traitors and aliens to a crisp. These models come with 2 different head designs, 5 different weapons, as well as optional backpacks.
Games Workshop has announced a new wave of models for the Adepta Sororitas in Warhammer 40K. Reveals made at Warhammer Fest have showcased a wide variety of new models for the Sisters of Battle, from new elite infantry picks to a stunning new leader in a suit of Paragon armor.
The new array of models rounds out the Adepta Sororitas range, alongside the long-awaited announcement of a codex containing the recently revitalized Sisters catalog. This comes as the first part of a wave of Warhammer 40K tabletop announcements, with the breadth of the new models coming as somewhat of a surprise for a faction that has already seen a great deal of care as of late.
The highlight of the announcements was High Abbess Morvenn Vahl, the supreme commander of the Adepta Sororitas. In short, she's set to be one of the army's most powerful warriors- standing alongside even the Saints of the Sororitas. This is alongside four other character models, the banner-bearing Aestred Thurga with Hagiolater Agathae Dolan, and the generic Palatine and Dogmata heroes. This brings the army to an impressive 16 character options, which gives a freedom of choice beginning to rival that of the iconic Space Marines.
Non-character offerings were the elite, shielded Celestian Sacresancts, the towering Paragon Warsuit, and the armored Castigator battle tank, giving the Adepta Sororitas a variety of new heavy options. Recent successes in the competitive Warhammer 40k scene for the Sororitas might get driven into overdrive by the arrival of these new units and their codex- much like has happened with the Drukhari codex recently. While not discussed at Warhammer Fest, it's likely that the Sisters of Battle will see representation in the upcoming Warhammer x Magic: The Gathering crossover.
The Sisters of Battle have recently received representation off the tabletop as well, with a major update to VR title Battle Sister. Games Workshop seem keen to promote the Sisters of Battle right now, after a successful reboot of the faction in 2019. Fans of the fanatic battle-nuns have plenty to get into in the near future.
That seems to be the general consensus I've heard from most people, and I agree, that the old designs just needed to be updated to plastic (and maybe a slight tweak in scale, the older models were a bit smol.) These are a lovely homage to some badass sculpts that were well ahead of their time.
A visible (and measurable) difference of one eighth inch (3mm) would be one eighth of six feet, or 1/8th of 72 inches. Divide 72 by 8 and we're talking about a difference in height of 9 inches (!), and I guesstimate 1/8\" to be about the smallest distance able to be accurately resolved by eye. Even a nearly invisible (yet measurable) difference of 1/16 inch (1.5mm) represents 4 and 1/2 inches of height, and manufacturers just don't create models with such differences in size, unless the scale has changed completely, or the figure being represented is a physical dwarf.
Bubba's argument in this thread is that the size difference between an old SoB & the new ones shouldnt be 'written off' as the standard human variance.... although I'll just point out that my wife (to be) is just 5' 10\", however most of the ladies who she knows range from 5'0\" to 5' 6\" ...giving us a height difference of 4 - 10\".... or 3-4 mm at a 32mm scale which is what the plastic sisters will be.
I think it is inarguable the new models look better in every way to the old models. Reading your other posts though, it seems to me GW could send you a gold nugget with a free army of plastic and you would complain about the packaging.
I'm not complaining about the new model. My posting has been edited, with considerable content removed (and that's not a complaint either.) I think the new models are fantastic, although a bit high in price for my hobby budget. I thought my posts made my opinion of GW, particularly their qualitative standards, quite clear. I only posted this (which I have said before in other posts), because other members were claiming these differences were matters of pyhsique. In any scale as small as this, even fairly significant differences in physique are invisible, for all practical purposes, and model manufacturers adhere to scale very closely, for that very reason.
Having put her and other models next to each other, she's head and shoulders taller even accounting for pose. Whether it's a good thing or bad thing is up to taste but there's no denying she's pretty massive compared to other sisters.
I think this topic has gone as far as it is able to go. Some people are not keen on the new size of the Sisters models, and that's fine. Others are okay with the new scale, and that also is fine. This has happened before, when the RTB01 Marines were replaced by the metal and plastic Mark VII models. It's a consequence of progress. There is only a finite amount of detail that can be put on a model around the 28mm mark. Either players accept that (for good or ill), or, they try to accept models that veer off that scale to be able to get the detail they deserve.
Thank you for the files you posted up! I will be printing them off soon as they look great! I was wondering though if you had separate head files so I might print them out and add them to my existing models I would love some of the heads you've made added to a paragon war suit or customising Saint Celestine!
Hello, I was talking to a guy on Reddit who was having trouble supporting his models so I sent him some supported files and also made a couple of reinforcements in Meshmixer (possible weak spots on the arm joins). If they're any use to it I can send you a link to the supported files. Tested on a Saturn 2 using SirayaTech Fast + 10% Tenacious.
I am a big fan of your sisters models. Printing an entire small army now. Please share the heavy support sisters as parts models, I would like to print them in parts and assemble the model. I was able to print them as a whole but some parts look fuzzy, probably because of supports. Thanks in advance!
Hello. First off, your sisters models are absolutely excellent. Also, I'm trying to print off the top armor section of the organ tank and it seems like it's damaged. Every time I try to repair it, it crashes my computer. Any chance you'd be able to repair that specific file
Are you referring to the Planetary Empires tiles for the Tyranids I had considered making GSC ambush tokens, but hadn't settled on a design idea thus far - mostly because I have been working on Sisters models when I manage the free time. 153554b96e
